Dear Friend - I'm so glad you've taken the time to learn more about our Street Preaching Ministry at Amwell, thank you! The reason this ministry exists is to share what the Bible calls "the gospel" with people in our community. The gospel is the good news that we can have forgiveness for our sins, have a restored relationship with God through the shed blood of His son Jesus Christ, live a joyful and satisfying life on this earth, and go to Heaven instead of hell when we die. The Bible puts the gospel this way:
Romans 3:10 says, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one" (King James Version). When asked if they are going to Heaven when they die, many say yes, because they are a good person. The Bible says this is a false hope, none of us are good people and none of us can earn our way to heaven.
Romans 3:23 says, "for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God". If we are honest with ourselves, we must admit we've all done wrong, and God calls that sin.
Romans 5:12 says, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned". This "one-man" is Adam, the first person God created. When he chose to disobey God and sin, he died spiritually, and this spiritual death has been passed on to every person born since Adam and Eve. That includes you and me. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord". This death is more than a physical death, it's a spiritual death. If we ignore our sin or try to take care of it on our own when we die our soul goes to hell and is eternally separated from God. The Bible says that souls in hell will be tormented by fire forever. However, the second part of the verse says God provided a remedy for our sin, He sent the gift of His son Jesus Christ who can give us eternal life in Heaven.
Romans 10:9-13 says, "9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved". If you choose to agree with God about your sin, confess that Jesus Christ isn't just the Lord but you make Him your Lord and Savior, and if you believe that Jesus rose from the dead three days after He was crucified, God has promised to save you from your sin. No one has ever made a promise to humanity like this before. And God never breaks His promises.
John 14:6 says, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me". And Acts 4:10-12 says, "10 be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." The Bible says not all religions are the same. The Bible says that salvation from sin can only be found in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, God's one and only son. Jesus is part of the trinity and is co-equal in status with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.
So I have to ask, are you a Christian? Have you ever read and believed those Bible verses above? They are God's instructions on how to get saved. My prayer is that you believe them and become a Christian today. And if you choose to become a Christian, that's not the end of your journey, it's just the beginning. The goals of the street preaching ministry at Amwell are: 1) to see people get saved and become disciples, 2) to be an encouragement to Christians, as they see brothers and sisters sharing their faith, and 3) to challenge Christians to preach the gospel themselves. Therefore, if you just received Christ, now I invite you to become a disciple. That involves coming to church, praying, studying your Bible, and allowing God to change your life. God wants you to become more like Him each day. We want to partner with you in your journey as a disciple here at Amwell.
